Description

Artist Jens Kromann (1936-2016) was born in Middelfart, Denmark. He produced art alongside his job as a school teacher and made his exhibition debut in 1969 at Den Frie, Copenhagen. By 1975, he stopped teaching and focused solely on his artistic work as a painter and went on to exhibit widely in over ten countries.

Nature was a significant source of inspiration for the artist and this painting is titled Volcanic (or Vulcanic). By applying the paint in a gestural manner and through the use of visible brush and scrape marks, Kromann has explored the ways in which oils can be used to create a sense of bursting energy and movement.

It could be interpreted that this combination of bold colour and explosive movement shows the artist’s commitment to exploring how abstract painting techniques can convey ideas of power and forces found in nature.
