Description
This painting appears to be by Bent Johnsen, a Danish painter who was born in 1919. Little is known about Johnsen, whose work largely consists of soft landscapes such as this one. Throughout his work, Johnsen uses soft, pastel tones to produce a kind of gentle and dream-like effect. Movement is created by the erratic brushstrokes in its foreground, whilst stability and strength is presented through the solid rock formations in the background. The pink brushstrokes, which appear to be flowers, intermingle with the grassy greens to produce a blurring, hazy effect. Rather than depict the harshness of the natural world, Johnsen here attempts to amplify its tranquillity and beauty.
