Description
Vintage lithograph print by Niels Østergaard entitled ‘Sendemasten ved Årsballe på Bornholm’ (The Transmission Mast at Årsballe on Bornholm).
Presented in its original timber + glass frame. Signed and numbered.
Niels Østergård was a Danish painter born in 1924. He largely produced artworks composed of bold, geometric shapes thoughtfully pieced together. He also created artworks focussing on other subjects, such as ‘Mother & Child,’ a piece acquired by the Danish National Gallery in 1961, although the pastoral remains the preeminent theme in the other works held by the museum.
This lithograph exemplifies Østergård’s concern with the natural world; the resounding focus of the piece is not details, but of the general impression that the pastoral scene produces. Its evocative nature relies on its lack of details or specificity. It is both non-specific in what it represents, but also largely timeless, representing the timeless practice of farming – interrupted only by a structure in the background that reminds of a telephone pole.
