Description
Egon Ericsson-Weinemo was born in Sweden in 1914. Relatively little is known about him, except that he studied in Stockholm, where he would continue to exhibit his work. What we know from his work, however, is that he drew on a range of styles, from collage-like abstract pieces to landscapes and to portraits, as in this painting here. The detail of the figure herself is contrasted with the plainness of its setting, drawing attention solely to its model. Unlike Ericsson-Weinemo’s other works, this painting uses darker tones to depict its subject, who appears distracted and deep in thought. There appears to be a distance between the painting’s model, who looks away, and the artist, who looks on.
