Description

Hans Sørensen (1921-1996) was born in Kalundborg, Denmark, where he would later return to to practice as an artist. Before then, however, he worked as a theatre painter in Copenhagen after completing a craft painting course in 1941. Later, he worked as a teacher, and by all accounts inspired much of the arts and culture work that came out of Kalundborg

Sørensen exhibited in several galleries in Denmark throughout his career. He was also the first to exhibit in a gallery established in Kalundborg in 1981. He established a reputation not just within the city, but as the spearhead of a local art movement there too. Sørensen’s reputation reached beyond the city, however,  evident in the national State Art Scholarships that he was awarded for his work.

Subject-wise, his paintings often feature subjects and landscapes. Both are completed in the abstract style, using sharp lines and distinctions to produce contrast in his work. This painting is reminiscent of much of Sørensen’s other works which embody a structural, even architectural outlook. The fine details of this piece give it a mechanical, even futuristic appearance.
